Katie Ledecky Smashes 800-Meter Freestyle Record Like It Was Nothing

US swimmer (and possible mermaid) Katie Ledecky has done it. She just smashed the 800-meter freestyle world record by clocking in a mind-blowing time of 8 minutes and 4.79 seconds.

Check out the video below that shows hereasily coming in first and lookingonly as winded as I appear after I’ve walked up just one flight of stairs.

LOOK HOW FAR AHEAD SHE IS OF THE WORLD RECORD! WHAT IS THIS? A WORLD RECORD FOR ANTS?!

Seriously, she just smashed that record like it was this easy to do so:

Let’s put it this way — Katie was so far ahead, Riocould have held her gold medal ceremony while everyone else was catching up.

OK, hyperbole aside, her victory was nothing short of a landslide, even though it was not done on solid land.

Katie’s nearest opponent, Great Britain’s Jazz Carlin (what a name!), finished a full11.38 seconds after her, which is anenormous margin when it comes to the Olympics.

Also, worth noting is that Katie just became the first Olympian in 48 years to make a clean sweep of the 200-meter, 400-meter and 800-meter freestyle races, joining former Olympian Debbie Meyer.

That’s a lot freestyling. Like, I don’t think Eminem could freestyle for that long and hard, you know what I mean?

Congrats Katie! Enjoy your fourth gold from Rio and your fifth overall!
