If you’ve ever had the misfortune of hitting an animal while driving, you know that the act, even though it’s unintentional, can haunt you.
This is the story of one man who thought he mayhave hit a dog while driving on the highway, but was scared to check because of his guilt.
After hours more of driving, he heard barking from his car and took a look, unsure and nervous about what he would find…
In hindsight, it’s easy to chastise the driver, Loudi Zhang of China, for not checking out the incident immediately, but guilt manifests in strange ways.
Still, if you think you’ve hurt an animal with your car, even unintentionally, please check on it immediately.
Zhang was on a road trip with a friend when a dog zipped in front of their car and…nothing.
Zhang was driving and was completely unsure of the dog’s fate. He didn’t think he ran over it, but he didn’t see it in his rear view mirror, nor did his companion.
As you can see here, that was because the puppy had actually fallen intothe car’s front bumper where it was safe, but surely nervous about speeding along the highway so close to the ground.
As for his explanation about not stopping…
He said, At the time I was traveling very quickly and thought the dog was killed or had escaped getting hit by any of the car wheels. I didnt get out to check on the damage.
Hmm. We can understand that, but it doesn’t mean it’s right.
If the dog was injured, the time you spent driving could have been the difference between life and death.
