Toddler Takes First Steps Despite Parents Being Told He’d Never Walk (Video)
It’s an exciting moment for every parent when their child takes his or her first steps.
For Garry and Chantal Whitehouse, it was even more special when their 1-year-old son, Jenson, took his first steps. Doctors previously told the couple their son would never walk.
Last December, the couple of Gloucester, England, took the little boy to the doctor after noticing he was having trouble with basic movements, such as sitting up and crawling. Doctors diagnosed Jenson with Duchenne muscular dystrophy, a rare, degenerative muscle disease.
They were told Jenson would likely be wheelchair-bound for life, but one day, Jenson got up on his own and, with the help of a child-sized walker, took a few tentative steps. His parents were shocked and overjoyed.
Though there is no cure for the serious disease, Jenson’s parents haven’t given up hope for his future, and they’re excited by this small, but important, show of determination on his part.
